I don't have GEX or UTX and like Paul, do most of my flying in the FTX regions as well, (Along with Florida) so I am already flying in fantastic sceneries. Are the FTX regions basically a product of the ORBX Global and LC and Vectors that have been gone over with and edited for a specific region along with adding in some extras. What FTX Global does is it change all of the default sceneries within FSX and P3D to produce a much more realistic representation of the world, without the need for VFR scenery, which would be almost impossible to do on a global scale. I looked at the manual regarding the FTX Global settings and the settings they recommend are confusing because some settings dont match with what P3D has. For example they recommend the LOD radius to be set at Large but large isnt any option.
